Ainscough Associates - Case Management Services

Martin

Martin was 18 years old when he was a passenger in a car involved in a serious road traffic accident.  He sustained a severe brain injury alongside serious physical injuries including a hemiplegia (weakness on one side of the body).

Ainscough Associates helped Martin in the following ways:

  • Martin was told that he would always remain a wheelchair user and any physiotherapy provided through statutory services would be simply for maintenance.  However, the case manager instructed a private specialist neurological physiotherapist who worked intensively with Martin over a couple of years and whilst he still uses a powered wheelchair on occasion he is now able to walk independently using one crutch for support.
  • As Martin will never be able to return to work because of the accident the case manager has worked very closely with many local support services to establish a routine of day care and support provided through a number of agencies.
  • Martin has significant problems with communication.  The case manager instructed a neuropsychologist and speech and language therapist to carry out detailed assessments and coordinated the provision of training to Martin's care providers.
  • The case manager has been instrumental in arranging and coordinating multidisciplinary team meetings as well as bringing together a clear set of rehabilitation goals.
  • Martin moved into his own specially adapted wheelchair accessible accommodation and the case manager was instrumental in advising about certain aspects of the adaptation process.
  • The case manager visits Martin and his parents on a regular basis and has provided a lot of support to Martin's parents through some difficult times since his accident.
