Ainscough Associates - Case Management Services

E-mail Print PDF

Peter

Peter is a ten-year-old boy with cerebral palsy as a result of complications at birth due to medical negligence.  He has severe expressive communication difficulties alongside his physical disabilities and difficulties with mobility and management of daily living tasks.

Ainscough Associates helped Peter and his family in the following ways:

  • We quickly identified that provision of specialist therapeutic support from statutory services was far from adequate for Peter.  The case manager sourced and instructed a private specialist neurological physiotherapist.
  • Referral for more specialist provision of orthotics and assessment at a private clinic.  Peter has now been provided with new orthotics which meet his needs much more adequately.
  • Instruction of a private occupational therapist and a further specialist occupational therapist to look at wheelchair and seating needs.
  • The case manager has concentrated carefully on building relationships and is now an integral part of the multidisciplinary team.
  • We have identified a number of areas in which Peter’s current home continues to be inappropriate and we are now assisting the family with identifying more appropriate accessible accommodation that can easily be adapted.
  • Working very closely with the local authority to make sure that Peter and his family have access to all the appropriate benefits and support, such as access to direct payments for care.
  • We maintain a constant review of Peter’s statement of special educational needs, liaising closely with the local education authority.
  • Recently the case manager has also helped the family explore purchase of a new specially adapted vehicle and has begun to help Peter's family start the process of employing support workers directly.
